The Wall Street Journal had an article about bomb sniffing dogs in Iraq that develop post-traumatic stress disorder or that refuse to work because they saw people shooting other people. It was one of the saddest things I've ever read. Sometimes I think dogs have more integrity than people.
This is heartbreaking. I hate how people take such advantage of animals because they're animals and not people. I hate how we believe other living things are less capable of feeling than we are. It's just that they feel differently, not less. Maybe this is a naive stance to take. Oh well.
No, I totally agree. They use the dogs to sniff out bombs so that people don't have to, which means that sometimes the bombs go off and the dogs die, which is really sad, sadder even than the dogs who have been through so much combat that they cannot even function anymore.
